GIVEAWAY - Dr. Smith's and Walgreens :)

For 31 years I led my life pretty selfishly.  Vacations were taken on the spur of the moment, I spent weekends popping in and out of stores as I pleased, spending money as I wished and not really caring much about anything but ME.  (And Chad of course ;)  So if you would've told me five years ago how much my FOCUS would change once we had a baby.. I probably would've just said.."yeah, yeah...whatever" thinking that I wouldn't let a baby change MY life.. I'd adapt their life to fit MINE.  Ummm...yeah.. funny.

The moment Everleigh came into our lives on that late September day in 2012, it's like a force field of blinders were placed on my eyes that wrapped that little 7lb 1oz body and never let me look away.  From that moment on, EVERY single thing was about her.  Was she cold?  Was she hot?  Did she eat enough?  Did she eat TOO much?  How in the HELL do I help my sweet bear handle that NASTY diaper rash?!

So when I was contacted recently by Dr. Smith's to try their product as they prepared to expand their distribution of diaper rash ointment across the country.. it seemed like perfect timing to try something new (cause heaven knows we had about five DIFFERENT brands going on at once trying to cure her rashy butt!)  ;)

As soon as I received their samples, I was actually really excited to try it.  (How NEW mommy of me to be genuinely EXCITED to try new diaper rash cream right?!) But it's TRUE.. I knew how much my bear was suffering... watching her wince in pain every time we went to change her diaper. By this point I was willing to get old school MEXICAN on her and cover her bottom in Crisco like my mom said they used to do with us!  Lol.. ;)

As soon as I opened the package the first thing that I noticed was the consistency of it.  (Which actually made me nervous to be honest.)  Being not as thick as some other brands I had tried, I was worried it wouldn't work as well...but again, I was willing to try anything at this point.  Let the experiment begin!  ;)  Happily, a few diaper changes later and what was once painful to even LOOK at.. was a mere memory!  Awesome and SOLD!  Here's to one happy and rash FREE customer ;)  Baby Bear APPROVED!

With all that said, from this new mommy to you, I'm excited to host this awesome GIVEAWAY where YOU can enter to win a:

Everleigh Isabella Kelley - 10 Months and Counting

Everleigh’s Monthly Photos:  This mommy's attempt to capture our Baby Bear's growth in relation to her “Letter E"... Continued.

Why is this all happening so fast?!  Why is my baby growing faster than my mommy brain can comprehend?  I can't hardly keep up with her.  She's SOOOO incredibly active now..well MORE active I guess I should say.  She's crawling over everything that gets in her way.. getting from point A to point B in one straight shot, regardless of the path or obstacles in her way.  You can't keep this baby down, that's for sure...And I can't believe how close we are to a year now!  A YEAR?! Seriously?  Where the hell is the Pause Button when you need it?!  Ahhhhh... !! Make it stop!

Miss Everleigh Isabella at 10 months..

Recent Milestones:

Words, Words, Words...
"Bye Bye" - So last month she really perfected the princess wave, responding very well to someone saying "Bye Bye" .. this month we can actually SAY "bye bye" in conjunction with the hand motion!  Go Everleigh!  ;)

"Mama" - Not quite sure if this is meant for me yet or not.. but seems like every time she's whiny or crying in her crib when she's trying to put herself to sleep, the first sounds that come out of her mouth are "Maamaa...maamaa...maamaa".  :)

SOLIDS - Our baby has got QUITE the palate!  She'll happily devour anything you give her...even trying (and liking!) tofu, sticky rice and peas this month.   She also loves her fruit.  Strawberries, blueberries and cantaloupe were on the menu for the first time this month.  Can't quite think of what else she's tried that's been new.. we pretty much let her try whatever we're eating whenever we're out.

PATTY CAKE - According to her MamaLis, she started clapping on her own to Patty Cake this past week.  I haven't seen her do it..but I don't doubt that she can.  She always lights up and starts "dancing" and pumping her hands "almost" together when I sing it.  :)

Why hello there pretty baby girl!!

Being EXTRA GOOBER-IFIC today!!

This Old House - Downstairs Part 1

In May of 2008, about two weeks before I even met Chad actually,  I closed on my  first piece of real estate.  Not having a significant other, nor family (obviously) at that point in my life.. My criteria for my first home was pretty simple.  Bigger than my 800 sf, one bedroom apartment... A garage to protect my car from all the freak hail storms and crazy weather we can sometimes get.. And something very low maintenance.  It took awhile...but after several weeks of searching, I finally found this old house.  At 1788 sf, it was plenty for little 'ol me.  Lots of charm, cute older neighborhood with huge trees and grass I didn't have to maintain myself!  Perfect!  Right from the start, these walls have seen my life unfold in the best possible way..

On May 25th, Mr. Kelley walked into my life and right from the get go.. (knowing almost immediately that he was "The One")... I reeled him into house projects.  It's almost like I could already see my future in that house with him in it.  He helped pick paint colors... (and of course...I put him to WORK right away!).  He helped paint, pack and move me (and all my 800 SF worth of stuff) into what would soon become OUR new house.  It was perfect for us.

Now before you look at these "before" pictures and think... "WHAT THE HELL WAS SHE THINKING?!?".. let me just say that this house was a foreclosure.. and a STEAL!  A deal I couldn't pass up.  I knew I could make it mine with a little elbow grease and some vision.  And because the price was so great.. I knew when it finally came time to move on to the next house, I'd make a little somethin' extra for the savings account.  ;)

With plenty of projects to tackle, and LOTS of imagination...

Our house went from crazy fun house-land...

To comfortably OURS...

Not everything is perfectly set up for pictures.. these were just snaps I took randomly one day..

From YIKES....

Obviously a BEFORE picture...

To very much US...

Kitchen tile is a bit YIKES for us.. but.. hasn't really ever been a priority to change..
Same goes for the cabinets.  That and our budget hasn't stretched that far.  ;)

There's obviously more to the downstairs area but due to the packing process we are in right now.. more pictures of our current house will have to wait.

Here's a looksie around the front and back of our townhome though taken back in 2008 when I moved in..

Community Pool and Clubhouse just steps away.. :)

Water Bear

If you live in Texas, you know that there are only a few ways to get through the scorching summers.  Sit inside and "wait it out" ;), live in a pool or head to the beach.

Yvette usually hunkers down inside....traveling from one air conditioned space to another. ;) Although growing up in South Texas afforded us the luxury of spending our weekends at South Padre Island (where my parents parked their travel trailer every summer), I still wasn't ever a big fan of getting into the water.  I hate being hot.  I hate sweating.  I don't like the ocean.  Sand in hard to reach places?  No thanks!  Needless to say, water and Yvette have never really been friends.  Mere acquaintances at best... but best buds we are not.

Enter Chad Kelley.  Growing up in California with beautiful weather year round, living and growing up on the beach...practically swimming from birth...his idea of summer was a little different than mine.  And his love of the water is still a mystery to me.  I knew though, from the moment we got pregnant with Everleigh, that I wanted all our babies to love water.  Or at least be comfortable in it...and absolutely know how to swim.  So once this summer rolled around, the first thing I did was buy my bear a swim suit.  A cute one at that.  Then we waited.  And waited.  Til Chad and I were free (and our neighborhood pool wasn't busting at the seams with people)..

Then.... It happened.  The pool was EMPTY?!  Could it be true?  On a GLORIOUS day no less when a VERY unusual cool front had come into town.. (in JULY?!).  SCORE!  We were on it.  ;)

Our Bear's first swimming pool experience... in pictures ;)  And yes there are TONS.. because this new mom wanted to capture our bear's first time "swimming" for posterity.  :)

No paparazzi photos please!  ;)

Rainbow Bear :)

Took her two seconds to realize this was MUCH more water than she was used to during bath time. :)
And LOVED IT!

Mommy cute little water baby! :)

Then she wanted to drink it.  :)

Not quite sure how she was feeling about The Daddy Disappearing Trick.  ;)

Didn't dunk her head all the way in..
Just got her hair wet...for now.  :)

More tongue action ;)

So serious..

Just lounging with Daddy.. :)

And we're spent.  Super tired baby after a fun time in the pool :)
(And yes... mommy did take two different hats to the pool for one baby.. ;)
